FUNDAMENTALS
An exciting 3-month course in the essentials of music production and recording.
Based at world-class Hackney Road Studios in the heart of London in a small vibrant cohort of four. The course explores creative and technical approaches to music production, recording, and mixing.
The course will be lead by Iona Catherine, an experienced music producer, studio engineer, and educator.

COURSE TOPICS
You will study:

Learn how to turn a song into a demo and then into a fully produced record.
Explore key music arrangement and composition techniques for music production.
Discover ways to generate new musical ideas, develop your creativity, and beat any creative blocks.

Learn to make the layers of a song sit well with creative intention. Learn EQ, compression, reverb and sound effects in both digital and analog forms.
Plus an introduction to mastering.

Set up a professional SSL analogue studio and make high quality recordings.
Understand the differences between different types of microphones and mic placements, and what gear to use to capture great recordings.
Learn how to replicate this at home.

Iona Catherine
Iona Catherine’s expertise lies in analog studio recording and creative digital music production. She is an experienced producer and mentor.
Mikko Gordon
Mikko Gordon is a grammy nominated record producer whose credits include, Thom Yorke, The Smile, Idles, Arcade Fire and Colouring.

Sean Woodlock
Sean Woodlock is a Record Producer and co-founder of Hackney Road Studios. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table and is one of the few engineers to still mix on an analogue console.
